Import AuraGO Scans into Autodesk Revit & AutoCAD

How do I import AuraGO scan data into Autodesk Revit or AutoCAD?

You can seamlessly integrate AuraGO point clouds into your Autodesk environment using one of two primary workflows. Because the Q3D Scan software (Prime version) supports native Autodesk file types, no complex third-party conversion is required.
Export your final, optimized scan directly from the Q3D Scan app in the .RCS format.
  • Why choose this: RCS is the native file format for Autodesk point clouds. This allows for the fastest possible transition from field capture to design.
  • Workflow: Save your scan locally or to your preferred cloud storage (e.g., Google Drive or Dropbox) and open it directly in your CAD/BIM software.

Option 2: Advanced Management via Autodesk ReCap

Import your .DP scan file or other universal formats (like .E57 or .LAS) into Autodesk ReCap.
  • Why choose this: ReCap acts as a powerful point cloud manager and viewer. Upon import, ReCap will automatically index and convert these files into the native RCS/RCP format.
  • Scalability: This method is ideal for users who need to merge AuraGO data with other data sources, such as terrestrial scans from a FARO Focus.

Inserting into Autodesk Software

Once you have generated your RCS file or overall project file (RCP), you can insert your point clouds into most Autodesk products, including Revit, AutoCAD, NavisWorks, Maya, and 3DS Max.

In AutoCAD or Revit:
  1. Navigate to the Insert ribbon on the top menu.
  2. Select the Point Cloud sub-menu.
  3. Choose your file and select Attach to bring the reality capture data into your project coordinate system
