How to Crop Point Cloud Data in Q3D Scan

Cropping in Q3D Scan

Once you have gathered your data, you may need to eliminate certain portions of your scan. This is useful for removing unnecessary information or cleaning up unwanted points.

While viewing your scan, begin by clicking on Edit.

From this menu, choose the "Cropping" option in the top bar.

This opens the cropping menu and interface. A box will appear on your screen — this box is used to select and deselect points for cropping. It can be repositioned and resized by dragging the two green corner handles.

Once the box is positioned over an area you want to remove, click the "Select" button. All selected points will turn red.

Alternatively, if you want to keep only a specific area and remove everything else, follow the same process but select the region you wish to retain. Then press "Invert" — this switches the selection to all points that were not originally highlighted.

If there is a highlighted region you do not want to remove, position the box over it and press "Deselect" to un-highlight those points. You may select and deselect as many times as needed until the correct area is fully highlighted.

If you want to conceal points without permanently deleting them, switch from Crop mode to "Hide mode". Hide mode works identically to Crop mode, except selected points are highlighted in blue rather than red. Points marked for cropping will be deleted upon saving or exporting, while hidden points will be preserved.

When you are done, press "Edit" again to exit edit mode. Before saving and exporting your scan, confirm that only the points intended for removal are highlighted in red.
